Decollement: Significant movement surface (detachment), usually parallel with bedding.
Sometimes used synonymously with zone of weakness (shale, coal, or other weak rock, or a strong unit susceptible to strain softening) through which a fault propagates. Usually there are separate zones of contrasting deformation above and below the decollement.
