Disconformity: Unconformity produced by interrupted deposition within a sequence of sedimentary rocks, often thought to be caused by uplift or a drop in sea level. Uplift and erosion can produce a surface having topographic relief without tilting or other deformation of the sequence, followed by subsidence and renewed deposition. Bedding in the rocks above and below the unconformity remains parallel.
