Fluid loss

From petrofaq
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The fluid loss is the transfer of the liquid part of the mud to the pores of the formation. Loss of fluid (water plus soluble chemicals) from the mud to the formation can only occur where the permeability is sufficiently high. If the pores are large enough the first effect is a "spurt loss", followed by the build up of solids (filter cake) as filtration continues.
