Motion compensator

From petrofaq
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The motion compensator is a hydraulic or pneumatic device usually installed between the travelling block and hook. Its function is to keep a more constant weight on the drill bit when drilling from a floating vessel. As the rig heaves up and down a piston moves within the device to cancel out this vertical motion.
