Upscaling

Upscaling is the process of creating a coarser grid (with lower resolution) based on the geological fine grid (with high resolution).

The term also applied to Scale up well logs.

Why Upscale?

Reduce CPU time for uncertainty analysis and risk assessment
Make fine-scale simulation practical
